Members of The Red Nation, young leaders from Acoma Pueblo, Maggie Toulouse Oliver, Michelle Lujan Grisham

This week, New Mexico in Focus looks at justice as an important issue for some Native American voters. Correspondent Antonia Gonzales, host of National Native News, speaks with members of The Red Nation in Albuquerque about their work to address concerns like the treatment of Native people in border towns. And two young leaders from Acoma Pueblo share why bringing back sacred items that were taken away from tribal land is an important national and international justice issue for tribes like Acoma. See prior programs of the series here.

Also on NMiF, host Gene Grant and the Line panelists discuss national and local politics as Election Day nears, and look at New Mexico’s high rate of young children on food assistance.

In our studio, correspondent Gwyneth Doland sits down with Secretary of State candidate Maggie Toulouse Oliver, a Democrat. NMiF will air a one-on-one conversation with Toulouse Oliver because her opponent, Republican Nora Espinoza, declined multiple requests to appear with Toulouse Oliver or in a one-on-one interview.

Representative Michelle Lujan Grisham will also sit down with Gwyneth Doland to talk about the top issues as the Democrat seeks re-election this year. Lujan Grisham’s opponent, Republican Richard Priem, did not respond to requests from NMiF staff by phone, email and mail.
