The Line: National Candidates In NM (web extra)

May 20, 2016 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Donald Trump, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have announced events in New Mexico ahead of the June 7 primary. Sanders and Clinton also opened offices in Albuquerque in recent weeks.

New Mexico is not usually a major player in presidential primaries but the state is getting extra attention this year.

According to Real Clear Politics, Sanders and Clinton are battling in the Democratic primary for 34 delegates. If Trump wins the Republican primary in New Mexico, he would add 24 delegates to his growing national delegate count.

New Mexico’s June 7 primary is closed and the deadline to change party affiliation, to be able to vote in the primary, was May 10. Voters must declare either Democratic or Republican party affiliation in order to vote in primaries.

Do you think New Mexico should be a stronger primary contender considering the heavy U.S. presence all across our state? Who are you voting for in the New Mexico Primary? Let us know what you think our Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #inFocusLine
